The SuperMotocross World Championship continued its tour across the United States and landed in St. Louis, Missouri, for a playoff that awarded double points. At the second of three SMX rounds, Triumph Factory Racing was represented by Jordon Smith, who placed seventh overall, after Austin Forkner withdrew due to a knee injury sustained during qualifying.

A fast-paced layout made for intense on-track action – even the smallest of errors were punished. Fortunately, the first 250SMX moto began in fine fashion for Smith, as he emerged from the first turn in seventh. A small mistake later in the race dropped him to 11th by the finish, and so his mindset quickly shifted to redemption in the final race.

That came in the form of a respectable fifth place. He started just outside of the top five, then posted consistent lap times in what was a strong performance. His 11-5 scorecard put him seventh in the 250SMX overall classification. Crucially, it moved him to seventh in the championship standings with only the triple-point, final round in Las Vegas remaining.

Forkner was unfortunately ruled out of proceedings after suffering a suspected knee injury in qualification. The Triumph racer will undergo a full medical evaluation in the coming days. It's hoped the injury is not too serious.

The SMX World Championship Finals are now just seven days away, with The Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosting the event on 20 September.

Jordon Smith

"It was a better day. I felt good in practice and qualification, so the work this week paid off. I had a lot of arm pump in moto one, which is unusual for me, but I regrouped well for the second moto. The result in that one was positive, and we plan to come out swinging in Las Vegas."

Jeremy Coker – General Manager, Triumph Racing America

"St. Louis was good for Jordon and heartbreaking for Austin. Jordon rode well all day and was looking forward to the motos. Unfortunately, he tipped over in moto one and finished 11th. The second moto was much better, which put him seventh overall and he’s now seventh in points too. Austin dabbed his leg in a corner in qualifying and sustained a knee injury that we are still evaluating, but it put him out for the night.

We are looking to make more improvements this week and end the year strong in Las Vegas."
