Guillem Farres Returns to Winning Ways in Turkiye
Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres has won round 17 of the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship in Afyonkarahisar, Turkiye. Securing victory with 2-1 race results, the Spaniard now leads the championship by 50 points over teammate Camden McLellan, who placed fourth overall.
Farres was near-perfect in Turkiye. After winning the qualifying race aboard his TF 250-X, he headed to the line for the opening Grand Prix moto focused on starting up front to stay out of trouble and maintain his championship charge. From third through the opening corner, Farres carved a tighter line through the wide second turn to take over the lead. He then led the way for six laps before he was pushed back to second. Undeterred, he maintained his rhythm to secure second and 22 valuable points.
The second moto started in a similar way to the first for Farres who moved into the lead on lap one. From there, he delivered a faultless ride to the finish to secure his 13th race win of the season and sixth Grand Prix victory. With his nearest championship challenger Sacha Coenen enduring a tough day in Turkiye, Farres now leads the way over his teammate McLellan by 50 points with two rounds remaining.
McLellan also performed well in Turkiye but just missed out on joining his teammate on the podium with his fourth place overall result. In race one he placed third, then followed that up with fourth in the second moto. As a result, he moved up to second in the championship ahead of the penultimate round in China.
The FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship continues next weekend with the MXGP of China in Shanghai. Heading into round 18, Triumph Factory Racing’s Farres and McLellan are now first and second in the series standings, with Triumph continuing to lead the Manufacturer’s Championship.

“Yeah, it was a good weekend here in Turkiye. I got good starts in both races and in moto two I had a much better pace than in moto one, so I was able to manage the gap for the win. “Overall, it wasn’t too bad of a day. I finished third and fourth in the two races, which isn’t terrible at a track I normally struggle at. I had a better feeling than yesterday and did what I could, but third and fourth in the motos was the maximum today. Now I’m looking forward to China and Australia. Hopefully I can get a little bit more out of myself there, but overall, it was a good weekend.&rdquo

“Round 17 in Turkiye was quite challenging with the altitude and the temperatures, both for the riders and from a technical point of view. Saturday was particularly difficult in terms of setting up the bikes, as the track was quite deep initially and it was difficult to read the data and understand exactly what we needed. We made quite a drastic change before the qualifying race, especially on Guillem’s bike, and it worked well. He was much happier and went on to win the qualifying race. Camden struggled a little more, so we decided to move in a similar direction with his setup for Sunday. In the end, it was another very good weekend for us. Guillem won the overall with a 2-1 result, while Camden was struggling a little with his breathing throughout the weekend but still managed to finish fourth overall. He also moved up to second in the championship, so we’re now first and second in the standings, which is really positive. Once again, the whole team did a great job. The overseas races are never easy. There’s a lot of logistic work involved for everyone, so hats off to the entire team. Now we look forward to the next one in China.”
