Dani Holgado was the master of Motegi today as he secured a second win of the 2025 Moto2™ World Championship with a commanding victory in the Motul Grand Prix of Japan. The Aspar rider led home Jake Dixon and Brazilian Diogo Moreira to complete the podium in the Triumph-powered class.

The 19-lap race kicked off with action throughout the field as the Moto2 pack poured into the opening bend. An electric start from Moreira saw him burst into the lead, a lead which was short-lived as Holgado sliced through.

Meanwhile, eyes were on polesitter and Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez, who was forced wide at the opening corner, dropping to ninth. Eager to fight through, he began working his way ahead of his rivals, but contact with Celestino Vietti, which saw the Misano victor crash out at Turn 10, resulted in a Long Lap Penalty for Gonzalez.

With Holgado pushing his Street Triple 765cc engine to lap record pace at the head of the field, he continued to stretch his lead over the chasing pack, with Tony Arbolino leading the charge behind. As Dixon moved in front of Moreira, he set his sights on Arbolino ahead and eventually made his pass on lap 10 to take second, thanks to a small mistake at the Victory Chicane from the Italian.

As Dixon powered away from the pack behind, eyes were locked on the battle for third as Arbolino slipped to fifth behind Moreira and Moto2 rookie David Alonso. With the pair covered by less than a second at the start of the final lap, Alonso looked every which way for a pass, but it never came.

A commanding performance from 20-year-old Holgado saw him take victory over Jake Dixon by 1.304 seconds, with Italtrans rider Diogo Moreira concluding the podium.

Meanwhile, after an eventful start to the Japanese Grand Prix, Moto2 championship leader Gonzalez pounced on a struggling Barry Baltus and Tony Arbolino to move himself up to fifth place, where he eventually took the chequered flag.

Gonzalez’s lead in the standings sits at 34 points ahead of Moreira, with Canet third 49 points behind. Moto2 action returns next weekend (3-5 October) with the Indonesian Grand Prix, taking place at the Pertamina Mandalika circuit.
